President Obama’s Hypocrisy President Barack Hussein Obama is the forty fourth president of the United States elected in 2008 and he is the first president, under the constitution, of African descent. He worked his way up from the Illinois State Senate to the US Senate and was officially sworn in as president on January 20, 2009. Given his background in politics, logically, people assumed that he was a responsible, trustworthy candidate for president; however, his actions prove otherwise. His past work does not stand for his mental ability to run and decide for a country. Instead of his idea of “hope” and “change”, his presidency has brought the United States to the brink of ruin.…

For this paper, I had the privilege of interviewing my mother, Ms. Avianne Philbert. Born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago, at the age of 12 she and her family moved to America as many did in order to find a better opportunity to raise their family. Upon asking her what her take on American history is, we got to talking longer and discovered that her favorite American History movie is Malcolm X. She reflected on what black history and religion in the movie meant to her, and how it relates to America from its creation to its current state. At the end of the interview, her ultimate view was that Malcolm X and his change from the beginning of his journey to the end is much like America then and now, in that when the past is used as a learning tool, even the staunchest of ideologies can change for the better.…

Reading the book, The New Jim Crow: Mass incarceration in the age of colorblindness brought attention to several different injustices that minorities face daily. It shuns light on how the African American community has been stereotyped and systematically program to dismantle the African American male figure within the family dynamics. According to Michelle Alexander Obama stated that too many fathers are AWOL, MIA and neglecting their responsibilities, which had cause the family to be weaker (Alexander, 2010,p ). However with the system continuously oppressing the African American male this is yet another way to belittle and emasculate this population.…

The book my group is reading is called A Jar of Dreams by Yoshiko Uchida. The book takes place in Berkeley, California around 1930. African Americans have had a long and burdened history in the United States, beginning with the institution of slavery and continuing on to the widespread racial injustice that they persevered and still endure today. As we look deep into the historical backdrop of America we cannot deny that African Americans have had a profound effect on the character of the United States of America. They helped to change the face of not just America, but of themselves. They called out for liberty and equality wherever the opportunity had arisen; battling ardently for the proclaimed equality that the Declaration of Independence decreed. This fight has been going on even before the U.S. was formed, through violent and bloody slave revolts to passionate and…

Speeches are a fundamental asset used by presidents to capture the attention of the public and or to persuade them on a particular side of a matter. Through the proper use of diction, imagery, and other rhetorical devices many great speakers are able to grasp their audience 's attention, discuss certain topics, and at times connect with them on a deeper level. Through the use of ethos, logos, and pathos both presidents’ Bush and Obama are able to address the sensitive topic of terrorism and its effects on the United States of America and its citizens while still relating to the public 's emotions. In President Bush 's speech he addresses the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, a day also known as 9/11. While his speech lacks the…

I never read much on Barack Obama but after reading the first few chapters in his book Dreams From my Father, I could tell right away that he too had concerns on the people and how we live. In Chapter One, our former president introduced his way of thinking about the US. It started when he received news of his dad’s death from his Aunt Jane. He then tells the lives of his family; from his grandparents and his parents. When he talked about his dad in the end of the chapter he mentioned how “He had left paradise, and nothing that my mother or grandparents told me could obviate that single, unassailable fact.…
