Dreaming In The Film Inception

In the film Inception, the question that is raised is, is Dominic Cobb dreaming or is he awake. After watching the film multiple times, the answer is never really clear. You just have to pick a side, and believe what you would like. Throughout the film, we are deceived by the totem, the children, the overpowering subconscious, the jumping around of the movie, the fighting that is always happening, and Mal, which leads us to believe that Dominic is still dreaming.
The first thing that makes us believe Dominic is still dreaming is the totem.

Arthur: A totem. You need a small object, potentially heavy. Something you can have on you all the time that no one else knows. Ariadne: Like a coin? Arthur: No, it needs to be more unique than that. [shows her a small red die] This is a loaded die. [Ariadne reaches for it, he pulls his hand away] No, I can't let you touch it, that would defeat the purpose. See, only I know the balance and

She wanted him to come be with the kids, but Dominic thought he was already there; his dream had become his reality (Emerald). In the hotel scene when Mal jumped off the ledge to wake herself up, she continued to tell Dominic that he needed to come home to their children. She said the only way out was to kill themselves. She then went on to tell Dominic that she had herself declared sane by three different psychiatrists, and even wrote a letter to their lawyer saying that she feared for her life. Before Dominic showed up at the hotel room she trashed the room and went out to the balcony from the room across the hall, and eventually jumped. This scene is important to show that Mal went through all the troubles to show Dominic that he was still dreaming, and that he needed to come back to reality. Dominic helped her to get up one more level from Limbo, so she took it upon herself to help him get back to

Chris wants to be a good father. When Christopher is sad, Chris uses his imagination to cheer him up. Even though Chris is struggling with money, he still didn’t want Linda to take Christopher with her. I would connect this to “Paradox and Dream” because Chris was alert of his surroundings after he lost 2 of his bone density scanners. Also, Chris was pretty aggressive when he was trying to get money from Wayne and when he fought the homeless man for a spot in line.…

While this poem does speak of a hawk, I do not much experience with them, but it did remind me of the owl experiences that I have had. The first line of “I sit on top of the world, my eyes closed” instantly brings to mind the typical image of an owl and it just so happens that I have an owl who loves to hang in the tree right by my bedroom window every night. While it is very cute an interesting to hear it hoot beautifully, it doesn’t stop when I am ready to go to bed. The phrases in the poem of “no falsifying dream” and “in sleep rehearse” reminds me of how that owl has made it difficult to fall asleep since he found his home next to mine and live on a conflicting schedule to mine. I can see him sometimes from my window and he is very beautiful…

Estimates by individuals of the length of their dreams can vary widely (and by inference, the actual length of the dreams varies widely as well). Spontaneously described dreams among laboratory subjects typically result in short reports; although some may exceed 1,000 words in length, about 90 percent of these reports are fewer than 150 words long. With additional probing, about a third of such reports are longer than 300 words. Some investigators have been surprised by repeated findings that suggest dreams may be less fantastic or bizarre than generally supposed. One investigator stated that visual dreams are typically faithful to reality—that is, they are representational.…
