The image constructed an unsettling atmosphere by using things that typically had a negative connotation associated with them. The main focus was on an almost demonic figure who appeared to be severally malnourished. This represented the depravity that corresponded with sinning. There was also blood dripping from its arm, which portrayed the dangers of provoking God and the ultimate consequence of death. The setting was in a dark room in order to represent the despair of the sinners.…

It was a night like most others in the abandoned ghost town. All I saw was darkness and shadows creeping around every corner. The sign above read “Muddy Creek Manor”.…

I walked up to the entrance of the evacuated home. The house could have been an enchanting two-story house; with its ivory framed windows, and front lawn. A flash of lightning lit up the sky through the window followed by a thundering boom. Tonight would be the night the creature would get his wish. When he had set up the machine, he then faced the lifeless form that was to be the creature’s bride. Tim Burton’s beautifully haunting production of ‘Edward Scissorhands’ introduces our protagonist, represented by Johnny Depp, and explores the fictional story of this solitary boy with an unfortunate seemingly threatening oddity, being thrust into a world where he is glaringly blatant in the midst of the suburbs. Despite his intimidating exterior, it is almost immediately exposed that Edward is just an innocent, childlike soul, intent on serving others. The purpose of this film was to delve into the threatening manner of suburbia and its dismissive views on originality. Burton shattered cliches and stereotypes of who ‘monsters’ are by introducing the monster in the form of townspeople. As Tim Burton’s individual ordeals are translated into…

My most valuable possession was my house. It wasn’t anything fancy or exquisite, but it was there that I had spent the precious moments, however few, with my beloved dad. I remember that we would spend hours playing, running around the arched, brightly lit corridors. On either side, I recall the large mahogany doors which would fluidly open to reveal ancient, chestnut-brown rooms with antique, twin bed frames which were confined within. I will never forget the uncanny gargoyles that were suspended onto the wall behind, the very same monsters who would assault my sleep and curse me with countless numbers of sleepless nights.…
