Dream In Young Goodman Brown

The short story Young Goodman Brown by Nathaniel Hawthorne is about a man and his faith in himself, his wife, and his society. There are many questions lingering in the mind of a reader after reading the short story Young Goodman Brown. The biggest unknown in the short story is that whether the trip through the Salem woods a dream or a reality. In my opinion the trip is a dream, but the trip symbolizes the confusion inside himself. It also shows a physiological examination of a Puritan man in confusion about his religious identity. There are ample of evidence which support the idea. Brown’s trip down to the forest was a dream. Medical News Today indicates that people dream because to represent unconscious desires and wishes, to interpret random signals from the brain and body during sleep, to consolidate and process information gathered during the day, and to work as a form of psychotherapy. Goodman Brown wouldn’t have gotten this dream if he wasn’t thinking about it. It indicates that he was not 100 percent sure of himself. He was unable to find the true identity of himself. The author also shows that everyone makes sins no matter who they are, so Goodman Brown is not always good as it might seem. Everyone makes mistake, and no one is perfect. For example, Goodman Brown meets Goody Cloyse who taught him bible. Goodman Brown initially taught she is religious and now totally surprised that she is into evil too. Next he finds town minister and Deacon Gookin are also into evil. On his way he finds everyone he taught has good into evil.
