True friendship is a feeling everyone deserves to feel in his or her lifetime. It is a unique feeling of self-worth and happiness. Developing a special bond is a crucial part of friendship, as it needs a strong foundation in order to flourish. The play, The Drawer Boy, written by Michael Healey demonstrates several different themes. One theme that is present is friendship, which can appeal to those of different nations and regions. Friendship exists between Morgan and Angus, between Morgan and Miles and lastly, between Miles and Angus.

Morgan and Angus shared a friendship that is unlike many others. They have been by each other’s side through the ups and downs. First of all, a strong friendship is one where both individuals are always there for one another. Morgan altered his whole life so he would have more time to take care of Angus and restore his memory. Miles, appreciating Morgan says, “And you’ve taken care of him since the war?” Morgan replied, “He doesn’t need much taking care of. Angus’ no invalid. I show him how to do things, remind him” (Healey 11). Morgan always played an active role in Angus’ life even though he did throw tantrums, was irritable and did not function like a regular person. Although in most friendships, such a strong dependency is not held upon one another, people universally can still relate to the good and bad situations relationships experience.
