Dearest Bilbo,

How are you doing? I hope you are enjoying living in. Overall I am doing fine, however much has changed since I last wrote to you. Where to begin? I suppose I will start where I left off in the last letter.

Lady Galadriel presented us each with a parting gift. For Aragorn,she gave a sheath etched with flowers and leaves of silver and gold, as well as a silver brooch called the Elfstone that once belonged to Celebrían. It was peaceful for most of the journey as we travelled down the Anduin River in small boats. However, we couldn't decide whether to go East, past Minas Tirith or West to another route. Eventually, it was up to me to decide, feeling pressured, I took a walk to clear my mind. Unbeknownst to me, Boromir was following close behind. He wanted to bring the ring to his home in Minas Tirith, and use the ring as a weapon against Sauron. When I refused, he flew into an anger and tried to take the ring from me. It was clear to me that the ring had possessed his mind, as he shouted that I would “take the ring to Sauron” (521), and accusing me of betraying them …show more content…
Simply put, I was the only one who could carry the ring without being corrupted. The ring had messed with Boromir's head, he who has sworn to help me destroy it only wanted it for himself. It would only be a matter of time before the ring starts to corrupt other members in the Fellowship. How could I ask them to help me when they cannot stop themselves from being influenced by the ring? Therefore, I decided to continue the journey to Mount Doom alone and started to make my way down the river.
I was surprised when I heard Sam jump into the water. He couldn’t swim for goodness sake! What was he thinking running into the deep river? I attempted to send him off Bilbo, I really did, however Sam was very insistent that I take him with me.
