Drake played the role of Jimmy Brooks in the teen soap Degrassi: The Next Generation for seven years and earned a Young Artist Award in 2002 for best ensemble in a TV series. He also released his first mixtape, Room for Improvement, in 2006, achieving modest sales of approximately 6,000 copies, and joined Lil Wayne on his Carter III tour as a result of his mixtape sales (Biography.com Editors). Drake received a BET award in 2008 for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist, and his single "Best I Ever Had” reached No.1 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in 2008.
