The Warpaint Emerald Dragonfly is a fascinating dragonfly. The size of this dragonfly is above the average size for the genus. Each of the four wings of this dragonfly can move independently and are powered by powerful muscles. The wings normally beat 35 times per second and propel the dragonfly to speeds of 35 miles per hour. Dragonflies have a visual field of almost 360 degrees. The legs of dragonflies are not able to walk. The Warpaint Emerald Dragonfly is about 49-50 mm long in adults. The abdomen is approximately 38-47 mm and, the hind wing is about 31-37 mm long. This dragonfly has a very dark face, with a shiny black labrum (rim of mouth). The ante-clypeus is yellow, while the post-clypeus is brown with a lower yellow border. The frons is shiny metallic green, with a cinnamon brown band, and a yellow band below that. The thorax is thinly lined with long whitish hairs, and has green reflections in the front. Wings have a brown tinge, but this tinge is more apparent in females. The abdomen is also, brown. …show more content…
