The ferocious thumping in my chest wouldn’t stop. Again and Again, trying to get more oxygen into my brain, processing what the hell just happened to me. I put my ear up to the cold metal of the keyhole, sending a stream of electricity down my spine. All I could think was, I need to get away, somewhere, anywhere, from the men with the masks. I feel like I’m watching grass grow. Just waiting for something to happen. Looking around the dinky closet, I had to cover my mouth to stop from screaming. On the wall, on the broken part of a mirror. I saw something that scared me from the pit of my soul. I saw a dragon, And that dragon was me. I pushed myself away. Trying to get away from the red, scaley reality that is my life. Tumbling out of the …show more content…
“I see you’re a quick learner kid. The name’s Levi,” he said, reaching his hand out as I flew to his height.
Using Levi’s way of hovering, taking his hand into my grip, I replied, “The name’s Shay.” Our gazes locked one anothers, I could see the excitement in the green dragon’s piercing red eyes. “Thanks for saving my by the way, I appreciate it.”
“Us dragons have to stick together right? All for one and one for all and that shit.” This isn’t the first time I’ve heard something like this. At school I had a friend that said these kinds of things, and he ended up using me to join the masks.
“Yeah, something like that.” I wasn’t sure about this guy, but I’ll go with it for now. “So, what can we dragons do?”
“We can, obviously, shoot fire, which is pretty much the only thing the humans got right about us,” he said, “we can shape shift, if you want you can delve into magic. Both of those are skills you need to work on, the shape shifting more that the magic. Unles you are born with a talent for it, you know, the hole everyone learns at different paces thing. There’s a ton of other skills but for now let's get out of here. I don’t like a newborn like yourself being so close to the dragon

I shut my eyes as I delved into the familiar feeling of the wind in my face. When I heard Levi yelling at me, “Pay attention kid!” I opened my eyes only to fly right into a bunch of trees. bust rose up when I made a small crater in the ground. This is when I realized that I probably should close my eyes when I’m flying. It’s a lot more complex than what the birds make it look like. Making it look so easy with their feathers, and sitting on phone wires. They should make a manual. “Hey Shay, you alright!” Levi said.
“Yeah I’ll be right up!” I replied. I tensed up my leg muscles, only to release it. launching my body up far enough that I could fly back up to where Levi was. When I got up to the same height as him I see the look on his face so I start to, or try to, explain the mistake I had made.
But he wouldn’t let me. Levi just started to laugh, and I was staring at him, because all he said after was, ¨Follow me kid, and pay attention this time.” I could feel my cheeks heat up at the mention of my mistake.
Embarrassed, all I responded back with was a short ¨yeah,¨ and I kept following him towards where ever we are going to practice using

The sound of footsteps going down the creaky wooden staircase echoed through the strangely silent house of the Tristessens. Between the walls, pestilence and death hung in the air like a thick smog, choking everyone inside. The only disturbance to the stagnant, silent atmosphere was the occasional cough rattling through the lungs of the man, Galen, who seemed much older than he was, and his children moving about the house to care for him. “Jackson, could you please get me the water? Bring it up here--quickly” Jillian called to her brother in a voice barely louder than a whisper.…

When I read this part of Baca’s story, I immediately thought of a time when I was unsure of what I was seeing. My father and I were going on a road trip when I was 15. He finished his shift at work around 10pm, and we had 6 hours of driving ahead of us. He asked me to stay awake to keep him company, so I drank one of those small bottles of caffeine that used to be around before 5 Hour Energy hit the market. We drove through the wasteland of Nevada where few cars pass and there are no towns for sometimes a hundred miles or more.…

BELIEVE IT OR NOT, we're all accustomed to a certain standard, or stereotype that needs to be played. Whether it's being captain of the cheerleading team or the smartest kid in your class, it's one way or another that's there's going to be someone who's supposed to follow by these stereotypes or standards just for the sole fact that that's them. Unfortunately for me, it couldn't get any worse, since being an African American female who unfortunately does not fit your typical, "angry black woman." Yes, that "angry black woman", bitter, closed-off, unarticulated, with serious father issues.…

Early on in the series A Song Of Ice And Fire George RR Martin forshadows many, series changing plot twists and important plot lines. One of which occurs when Tyrion Lannister and Jon Snow are on their way to the wall for Jon to join the brotherhood of the nights watch. The two exchange stories of their childhood and past, during this Tryion drops a subtle line which many don’t read to much into because kids have wild dreams “I always wanted to ride a dragon” and “Sometimes I would look into the fire and imagine I was riding one.” However, I think there’s more here that begs to be looked at. I think that this quote forshadows Tyrions alliance with Danaerys who is the mother of Dragons.…
