Dr Wes Palkington Reflection

I recently had the chance to listen to an entertaining lecture by Dr. Wes Pilkington. As he began talking, I could tell that his speech was going to be somewhat different than those I had heard before him. While he did not do a residency and was not extensively involved in leaderships roles like many of our other speakers, he has still found success after graduation. Although these activities are both important, he highlighted the significance of our rotations. He also offered us a unique perspective on the dangers of pharmacy, as he was the victim of a pharmacy robbery. He stressed that we must plan for and take our rotations seriously and also be aware of the risks of being a pharmacist. Dr. Pilkington talked about how he knew what he wanted to do after graduation and was able to plan his rotations to get the ones that would benefit him the most in his future practice. Hearing Dr. Pilkington’s unique story about being a victim of a robbery opened my eyes to the risks of being a pharmacist. I need to always be aware of my surroundings and be prepared for a situation like he was in. Paying close attention during training exercises could also be vital as he said this was something he remembered during the robbery. While it is something I hope I never experience, I still need to be ready to act to protect myself and those around me. With rotations nearing, hearing Dr. Pilkington’s experiences and advice has prepared me to plan according to my goals after graduation and motivated me to learn as much as I can while at my rotation sites. Learning about his involvement in a pharmacy robbery gave me some insight on a scenario that is rarely discussed and taught me about the risks of pharmacy and the importance of always being prepared for adverse
