In F. Scott Fitzgerald book “The Great Gatsby” there are many odd and significant things or concepts in the book. The ones that stick out were the symbols, and one symbol in particular was Dr. T. J. Eckleburg. Now Dr. T. J. Eckleburg is not a person, but rather a old and worn down billbird with eyeglasses looming over the valley of ashes. Now what is important about this billboard is what the symbol stood for, what it did to people, and when it showed up in the book. The billboard of Dr. T. J. Eckelberg was just looking eyeglasses above the valley of ashes. But thought the book it is seen as a symbol. Dr. T. J. Eckleburg is a symbols of something like God or of a being that sees all. In the book it talks about his persistent stare (p. 24) and how he watches all of the valley of ashes and just how he sees all. In the book, no one is said to really go to church or do anything religious, but they still look up to Dr. T. J. Eckelberg as something that know all and that he sees all. T.J. Eckleburg only shows up a few couple of times in the book, and all these events have something in common. For instance, he shows up before tom takes nick to see his mistress, he shows up before gatsby takes nick to a speakeasy, and he shows up before wilson goes to kill gatzby. Dr. T.J. Eckleburg shows up before something immoral or illegal happens. It is a symbol i the book foreshadowing immoral legend, of just plain bad events are about to occur. A possibility for the reasoning behind Dr. T.J. Eckleburg always showing up before something i'll happens is to show that someone is always watching the actions of others. Lik wit the example of the tennager coming home after curfew. Maybe the parents were out of the house at the time and did not show their kid was out late, but the teeneager knows, the tennager saw. Possibly Dr. T.J. Eckleburg is trying to portray that there is always someone watching and
