The characteristics of the Cold War are reflected in Dr. Seuss's novel The Butter Battle Book. This can be seen through the conflict existing between the two nations and the wall separating them, and even more through the Arms Race, and the deadly effects of nuclear warfare. Not only does the short story demonstrate the important lesson of respecting differences, it prominently shows the devastating effects of petty conflicts. Like the Yooks and Zooks, had the United States and the Soviet Union showed tolerance and respected each others the differences during the Cold War, a drastically different outcome would have occurred.…

In The Butter Battle Book by Dr. Seuss, the Cold War is defined by having a childish theme to understand the stupidity of a real-life problem. Within the book, Dr. Seuss gave an idea of which side of the bread to be buttered, the top side of the bread or the bottom side of the bread, creating a dramatic controversy. The major problem of the bread being buttered created the threat of nuclear war, which imitated the Cold War. Dr. Seuss tops many other short satires, with his major use of exaggeration, allusion, and symbolism. Dr. Seuss emphasized symbolism well throughout the story.…

After reading and thinking carefully about the Unit 2 Case Study, I would rate the four characters in this way: Responsibility for Reggie's failing grade ***************************************** Reggie - 1 (most responsible) Arnie - 2 Sally - 3 Prof. Lovelit - 4 (least responsible) In my view, Reggie is most responsible for his own failing grade, due to his decision to: 1) not do the homework (reading), and 2) willfully take the essay from the internet and plagiarize. Arnie is number two on my list (in Reggie's failing grade), not because he also plagiarized, but because he was complicit in allowing his classmate to plagiarize. Arnie's response should have been to strongly remind a fellow student that plagiarism will only lead to a failing…

Seuss has received around his career, as a propagandist, is undeserved. Many author-artists’, such as Dr. Seuss and similarly as Herblock and Walt Disney, joined the propaganda realm during the 1940s in order to make a war effort. Dennis Nyback, a New York independent film archivist and historian, exclaims, “There’s this view of Dr. Seuss that’s pretty much two-dimensional” which is extremely accurate, as he is regarded as a content and admirable individual (McMurtie). Society needs to broaden their image of Dr. Seuss, as he is a complex human being, just like the rest of the world. In order to embark in a career involving videogame design, specifically the programming aspect, I would need to eventually build a physics engine, which requires a deep understanding of calculus. For example, physics engines require a knowledge of vectors so objects can accurately move, which Calculus III teaches. No one wants to play a game where you throw a ball forwards and the ball goes backwards. Calculus can also determine the growth rate of interest or population growth, the volume of any object that can be represented with a function, and even the vector measurements that make space travel possible. To apply calculus to these real world problems I need experience with calculus, which is why I am currently enrolled in a Calculus II class.…

In his speech, “Why our Future depends on libraries, reading, and daydreaming” Neil Gaiman discusses the importance of reading books fostering literacy and imagination, especially for children. Whether it is fiction or non-fiction or any other genre, Gaiman supports people’s freedom of reading whatever they desire. Reading can only be beneficial in the end and people can learn much from books. Gaiman’s reasoning and use of rhetoric allow his argument to be persuasive to the audience he is presenting to. His main purpose is that more people should have a desire to read in this modern world even with the rapid rise of technology, not only to gain knowledge and learn but to allow their imagination to run free and become an intelligent citizen of society.…
