Dr. Saltisky's Essay On Health Psychology

During Dr. Saltisky’s lecture on health psychology, one of the main issues he emphasized was how we don’t exercise as much as we should. He stated how we spend more money on treatment than actual prevention, and how as much as treatment is essential everything begins with prevention. For this reason, is why Dr. Sltisky encourages doctors to mention exercising in every appointment. The goal is to get people to exercise more and prevent them from being diagnosed with a cardiovascular disease. In class, Dr. Sltisky talked about how freshmen in college are more active than seniors. The reason for this can depend on different things, but among them are, lack of sleep, poor nutrition choices, and age. All these things can add up over the years leading to more exhaustion. Another effect that has caused us to not exercise has been technology. It has facilitated a lot of things for us, but it has also made us lazier. For example, now we have a remote for TVs, so we don’t have to get up and change the channel. As much as these new gadgets are cool we have been sucked in by technology and that has significantly impacted our lifestyle. …show more content…
I remember last year (when I was a freshman) I did go to the ARC more often than I do now. Which is something I was aware of, but didn’t pay too much attention to. Not exercising can impact my ability to live a “healthful” lifestyle because it can lead to shorter life spans. Even though right now I am fortunate to not suffer from any diseases, I still don’t consider myself to be healthy. In order to actually consider myself healthy I must engage in activities that will maintain my wellbeing. Besides maintaining an active lifestyle, I would also have a more positive mindset.
