Q and Mr. Peters are within the same generation. Like Dr. Q, Mr. Peters also came to the states for work. Russell Peters was born in Canada and finally started performing on stage at age 19. Alternately, Dr. Q (age 19) had come to live in California. It was for years to contribute afterwards however, that they both would persevere to find better and more lucrative work. In 2011 Dr. Q was put in an issue of Baltimore magazine for “Baltimore top docs” meanwhile Russell Peters named co-host of the 42nd annual NAACP awards.
Breaking down stereotypes isn’t something you see quite often. For Dr. Q, that was a by-product of his success. Much in the same way, Russell Peters used this as a tool of comedy to achieve this success. In doing this, he sheds light on controversial topics of race in a venue where the local community can come to laugh together. As a result of Russell finding success as a public speaker in comedy, he later became an actor.
