Padre Pio was born in May 25, 1887 in Pietrelcina, Italy. Padre Pio did not come from a wealthy family. He actually came from a family of farmers. Also he wasn’t an only child he had an older brother and three younger sisters. Furthermore at the age of five he reportedly made the choice to dedicate himself to God. Padre Pio was made a saint because of the charity he did for the community, his piety towards god, and because he had the gift of the stigmata
During Padre Pio’s life some of the charity he did for the people was helping out the village of Pietrelcina, protect adolescents, and civil defenses volunteers. On a website called Saint Pio foundation it says “Known the world over as the “Hospital of Padre Pio”, the Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza (Home for Relief of the Suffering) is a religious hospital, entrusted to the Holy Father by Saint (Padre) Pio. In the article St. Padre Pio the text states “ As a child, he was very religious and by the age of five he reportedly made the decision to dedicate his life to God”. (St. Padre Pio) This shows that even when he was young and didn't know much he was dedicated to God and would do anything for him. Furthermore since he was so dedicated to God he spent his whole life doing great things to help the community.
Another example of why he became a Saint is because of the stigmata. The Stigmata is wounds that show up in spots that correspond to the wounds of Jesus Christ. In the article St. Padre Pio the text states “ St. Padre Pio was an Italian priest who was known for his piety and charity, as well as the gift of the stigmata, which has never been explained”. (St. Padre Pio) This proves that he was special because every time during mass this would happen to him proving that he was a man of God.
