Dr. Oz Political Cartoon Meaning

Decent Essays
This political cartoon has a very important meaning. The cartoon is representing the ever questionable T.V. Doctor, Dr. Oz. Dr. Oz is known for giving nonsensical advice. I mean, don't question your doctor? Come on! You are always obligated to question authority. Anyways, recently, Dr. Oz has been accused of tricking millions of people into thinking that certain foods will provide weight loss. Recent surveys have debunked Dr. Oz's medical claims. But a lot of ignorant people continue to believe these claims. So cartoonist, John Cole, decided to draw a cartoon depicting Dr. Oz as the wizard of Oz.
If you studied the picture at all, you would have noticed some important details. Like the text that appears on the top left hand corner that says “We're off to see the doctor! The questionable doctor called Oz.” These words are referencing Dr. Oz's supposed health advice. If we look at the hot air balloon, it has a dollar sign. This possibly represents how much money Oz is getting from people who listens to his false advice.

When he introduced the “yellow brick road” to take her into the Emerald City, they described it as “painted completely bright golden yellow with the yellow so bright it cannot be missed”. In my opinion, this was supposed to represent good things to come and positivity. There were parts of the book where the bricks became broken and not as glowing yellow. During this time, danger was imminent, giving the impression that less saturation of yellow lead to a more dangerous setting. It was this yellow road that ended up bringing them into the Emerald City and reaching their goal of meeting Oz.…

Political cartoons during the late 19th century Gilded Age revealed, on a large scale, key issues at stake throughout the era. These drawings flourished in the 1860s due to advances in new technology of mass circulation and because people of all kinds; young, old, black, white, educated, illiterate could interpret the intense meaning from the artists. Cartoonists emerged by the names of Thomas Nast from Harper’s Weekly, Joseph Kepper of Puck, Frank Beard, Eugene Zimmerman, Grant Hamilton, etc. Most of these illustrators rose to the occasion to bring down the infamous Boss Tweed, who in 1861 begun his formation of the New York County Courthouse costing around 13 million dollars. City officials with a grudge against William M. Tweed provided…

The cartoon I am analyzing is wildcard #1 of Constitutional Underpinnings. This cartoon symbolizes how our federal government is set up. In football, linebackers of opposing teams always tackle each other. This represents clashing of the Congress and the executive branch. Not only that, but in football games, sometimes one side overpowers the other.…

Before one can write about a political cartoon which greatly depicts two Congressman, Matthew Lyon of Vermont, and Roger Griswold of Connecticut, fighting on the floor of Congress in 1798, one needs to know what a political comic or cartoon is. A brief definition would do: Political cartoons are defined as illustrations or comic strips containing a political or social message that usually relates to current events or personalities. Now with that out of the way, we may proceed. Generally, when it comes to a political cartoon there are a few reasons why one would decide to draw it in the first place. What was the artist trying to portray, what kind of message was he trying to send, what target audience was he trying to reach?…

I have chosen Thomas Nast’s March 16, 1867 cartoon picture, “The Georgetown Election—The Negro at the Ballot Box,” as my primary source. The cartoon’s setting is Georgetown and people are in line to vote for Andrew Jackson as a president. And it features an African-American man standing in line to vote and two white men glaring at them. The African-American man is dressed up in low class clothes. He took off his hat when he puts his vote in the glass ballot box.…

This political cartoon based on the president, Donald Trump. The cartoon displays the artist's personal opinion on how Donald claims that he isn’t racist or offensive to people in any way. Yet, most of his supporters and admirers have shown signs of supporting racist, sexist, and other offensive movements and morals. It shows how our President says one thing, but all actions and behavior say another. The cartoon also explains that if Donald is sly about his racism, his supporters will be obnoxious about it.…

This political cartoon advertisement is about a company loaning money to people during the Great Depression. This is the message to people, especially the people who live near a West 72nd street in Manhattan, New York, saying the people can have their own personal finance along with the opportunity that they can loan up to $300. At the bottom there is a message in a big, bold font, it says “Everybody needs money at some time or other” this sentence is the sentence that will grab people’s attention because of the big font it has as well as the cartoon under it showing the men in a black suit with a serious look on his face. The illustrator of this political cartoon is John Cole. He mainly works as a cartoonist for the Times Tribune in New York. The main reason he made this cartoon was because he thinks the NRA has too much of an influence on the community and the country when it comes to shootings and background checks. Guns are used mostly for just shooting targets and relieving stress in the shooting range, however, some people take a bad turn and use them for killing. Homicides and national shootings have become a big epidemic in the United States within the past couple of years and should really be stopped.…
