Basketball was invented by a very smart man named Dr. James Naismith. Dr. Naismith was born 1861 near Ontario, Canada. Dr. Naismith went to Mcgill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Mcgill is also where Naismith was placed as Mcgill’s Athletic Director . Dr. Nnaismith was challenged to come up with a game for the kids to play inside during the Massachusetts winter. Naismith wanted to create a game based on skill, not strength. The game of basketball all started in a YMCA Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts. When the game was first created they played it with a soccer ball and two peach baskets. Basketball was introduced to the world in the Berlin Olympics 1936.
