Dr. Mercola is alternative medicine proponent with a controversial preposition on the long standing eating pattern human adults tend to have. He advocates intermittent fasting as an important strategy for effective weight loss and disease prevention. He states that eating two times a day is an overall better approach than eating three meals a day. In his strategy, he mentions people should choose either breakfast and lunch, breakfast and dinner, or lunch and dinner as a combination for their new eating pattern. He further notes that individuals who choose to eat dinner should eat three hours at a minimum before going to bed. He states that eating right before sleep triggers insulin resistance which can be detrimental to weight loss goals. He states your body will use the least amount of calories when sleeping, so the last thing you need is excess fuel at this time that will generate excessive free radicals that will damage your tissues, accelerate aging, and contribute to chronic disease.

For whom was the article written? This article mainly targets individuals who are looking to lose weight but are relatively healthy or free from disease. This gives those individuals that belonging to this category an easy to follow system that should be safe and effective as long as their nutritional requirements are met within those two meals.
As noted in the article this plan should not apply to normal weight teens or growing children. Dr. Mercola did not specify on the possible adverse effects of long term calorie restriction to the said population. I am also assuming this plan should not be used by pregnant or nursing mothers because calorie restriction during these periods could potentially be harmful to the mother or
