Dr. Mengele, the so-called “Angel of Death,” is known to have performed medical experiments on the young prisoners. In the essay excerpt "The Horrors of the Holocaust..."(140) Zoe Johansen, a middle-school student, interviewed an Auschwitz survivor who describes the horrific medical experiments of the "the most notorious doctor" Josef Mengele also called the "Angel of Death." He is known for torturing twins as part of his experiments "thinking that by doing so he might find ways to strengthen German racial characteristics." In fact, he performed his terrifying experiments by measuring their naked bodies three times a week, drawing blood out of their arms and giving them injections that would make them very sick occasionally(142).
