Dr. Mengele Typology

Understanding the criminal mind can be a daunting task. There are many aspects an investigator must consider before determining the typology of the criminal. The investigator must take a look at whom the individual was before they began their descent down their murderous path and what could have caused the descent. They must also explain if the individual has any mental disorders that could have contributed to their behavior. Lastly they must determine what legal action can take place based off of their findings. One era of world history that is still raising questions is the Holocaust. During this time there were many “evils” that took place. The people that embody the evils of this era are the Schutzstafel or SS doctors. One man …show more content…
Mengele is “the original ‘Angel of Death”, a doctor who performed atrocious operations and experiments on people, especially children in concentration camps” (Kirsch., 2006). Dr. Mengele was not always this way. He was not always a monster. He was born to a prominent family. He grew up with a mother that had a terrible temper whom demanded respect and obedience from her children. She also wanted complete control over all of those that lived in her house. She had cold-hearted methods of parenting. Mengele’s father was also cold and distant; he was always consumed or preoccupied with his work. Rudis taught that not only was the theory of “unworthy life” the truth but it was the responsibility of a doctor (of that time) to destroy any such life that demonstrated any flaws such as blindness, deafness, feeblemindness, physical deformities, alcoholism, etc. With Mengele’s background and passion for eugenics (the search for the secret of genetics and the sources of human deformities and imperfections) and the teachings of Rudin, it is easy to see how the Nazi ideology took hold in his
