Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.” Everyone has the ability to be intelligent, but with education students are given opportunities to grow through not only their education, but also their values and character. Being apart of Owensboro Public Schools, I was given many opportunities to grow as a person through my education, such as Leadership Owensboro Middle School, Kentucky Youth Assembly, and Kentucky United Nations Assembly. In his quote, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. mentions critical thinking, college will give me the chance to think critically and push myself to my full potential and become the hard working student I know I can be. Of course, college is a time for fun, making memories, and building relationships, but we often forget it is a time to help prepare us for real life. I have confidence that my upcoming educational experience will do just that, and that going to a new city, away from my parents is one of the biggest favors I can do for myself to help prepare for the real world. Gibson 2 degree will help my future, because having a college degree is so valuable today it unlocks many job opportunities to help me get a job, keep it, and make more money.
MLK not only believed that intelligence was apart of having a true education, but to have character. Making an impact on campus is an easy task for me to accomplish with all the activities that are available for students. Once on campus I plan to join as many clubs including the Student Activities Board, Student Government Association, and the African Student Union. Organizations such as these will help other students and I continue to grow intellectually and help bring change that will benefit both students and
