Dr Locklin Aspirations

Improved Essays
My aspirations to become a doctor started when I was a little boy. As I grew older, I found delight in helping other people. However, I started to become more educated and realized that the term doctor can be a variety of positions. I have put endless hours of thought into the choices I have, and even explored some other possibilities through friends and family. I feel as though I would be able to become some type of doctor, because I am able to be around blood and other daily encounters that often cause people to immediately cross out doctor as a career path. Although, there was one part of becoming a doctor that never seemed to cross my mind. This changed after Dr. Locklin presented on Monday. He spent a good portion of his time talking about his life and how he became what he is today. But the part that caused me to rethinking becoming a doctor was when he told us of his life …show more content…
Locklin is conducting is very fascinating. All of his ideas were so innovative and ideas that could be very beneficial to society. However, this is not the main reason why I am interested in them. I am interested to see exactly how Dr. Locklin and his research team are able to make coatings. In the presentation, Dr. Locklin touched a little on the process of coating and how they are made from polymers; however, because his introduction was so long, he was unable to go into more depth. A specific idea that I found most interesting was the coating that killed the bacteria on contact. This would be a very useful material that could be used throughout the medical field to help reduce possible infections. Another area that Dr. Locklin discussed was the problem with one-use plastics. The affect they have on the environment are devastating, and one of the projects Dr. Locklin is working on is the production of biodegradable plastics. If biodegradable plastics were able to become sufficient and effective, this could help one of the major contributors to the

The study of medicine has evolved over thousands of years from something of an enigma governed by religious spheres to the highly specialized science of preventing, treating, and curing diseases of the human body. While my interest in becoming a physician did begin with a love of natural sciences, it has, like the study of medicine, evolved into something much larger than topics covered in my general biology courses. I want to work with people on managing their conditions, learn from doctors before me as well as patients, and be a positive influence despite often-negative diagnoses. Individuals all have different reasons for wanting to attend medical school, but I believe that we are either called to practice medicine or we are not. I am drawn…

Since I was young, there was never question as to what I'd be, I was meant for the medical field. My fondest memories of childhood was playing doctor with my friends, curing them of the worst injuries imaginable. As I grew older it became more evident, at 12 my dying grandmother moved into our home and I took it upon myself to see to her very need. I didn't know what field to enter though until volunteering at the Auburn Sutter Faith hospital.…

After graduating high school this spring, I plan on expanding my knowledge by attending The Ohio State University in the fall. I will be majoring in biology as I have a true interest in science. Growing up with Hemophilia A, I have always been inspired to go into the medical field. As a child, I took frequent trips to the hospital and was constantly around medicine because of my Hemophilia. During those appointments, I have had multiple conversations with my hematologist talking about his profession and careers similar to his career.…

    • With a large majority of my family working as doctors, including my parents, as a young child I’d naturally wanted to stay as far away from a stethoscope as possible. Simply the thought of blood and illness was enough to make me loathe the practice. This discrepancy between my personal feelings and my entire family’s passion for medicine led to my numerous trials and tribulations of determining my future profession. Like all other kids, I underwent ephemeral bursts of inspiration, claiming to love acting, space travel, singing, and even making an attempt to emulate the legendary Santa Clause (the one-season aspect of the job really seemed like a good fit). But nothing truly seemed to fulfill my ambitions or survive my erratic thought process.…

The medical community has been a large influence in my life quite literally since birth. I attended my father’s college graduation as a young child and studied with him throughout medical school. We ate pizza together while I learned fractions. He would hand me a slice, put the box back up on the cadaver and continue studying for gross anatomy. I always wanted to “join the family business,” but time and time again my father would have to explain how it doesn’t quite work that way.…

Freshman year in college is where you are supposed to figure your life out so you can prepare for the “real world.” When most of my peers are changing their majors and trying to figure out what they are supposed to do with their lives, I was blessed to have a family and high school that provided me with experiences that made my decision obvious after exploring many options ranging from business to engineering. With already knowing what I would like to do with my life once I receive my undergraduate degree in professional biology with a minor in chemistry. I would like to further my education and attend medical school. Most likely I will be trying to achieve an Osteopathic Degree (DO) not just a Doctor of Medicine Degree (MD).…

My original thoughts of doctors and their duty was solely based on the medicine, not on how the medicine relates to other aspects of life. My opinions about doctors have now changed, but definitely for the better. I now understand that the intricacies of medicine are just one thing doctors must understand, in addition to the intricacies of ethics, religion, and empathy.
