I would have discussed the situation with Ronald before even booking the flight and verifying the information with Dr. Layblame. Ronald, being Frank’s supervisor, should have been informed about the change of plans as soon as possible, especially since they were instructed not to leave the assignment early. Had I followed Frank’s steps, I would have asked for a meeting involving Ronald, Dr. Layblame and myself to clarify the situation and to quell and confusion.
3) What should Frank have said if his manager said, “You should have reported Dr. Layblame”? Actually, Frank should have reported Dr. Layblame. He should accept what the manager is saying and be prepared to be reprimanded for disobeying a direct order and not discussing the change with upper management.
4) How would you describe Ronald’s management style? Ronald’s style of management is suspect. He knew that they were leaving early and could have rectified the situation. He knew what time the flight was, but chose to be unavailable for several days after the incident. He never discussed the parameters of what happened with Dr. Layblame. It is as if he wanted to catch Frank unexpectedly so that he can have a reason to reprimand him on the basis of leaving early and not trying to call him at any point.
