Have you ever thought of someone being in a similar situation you’re in? Out of the seven billion people living on Earth, it is likely that more than one person has a similar situation you're in. In the stories “My Sister’s Marriage” by Cynthia Marshal Rich and “The Five-Forty-Eight” by John Cheever showcase two men, Dr. Landis from “My Sister’s Marriage” and Blake from “The Five-Forty-Five”. Dr. Landis and Blake face their own problems from the people they interact with, which is a result of their personalities and actions. Dr. Landis is a Doctor and a widowed husband who lives with his two daughters in a rural area. Blake is a Businessman who is also a father and lives in the suburbs. Both Dr. Landis and Blake are similar based on their characteristics, interaction with people and the way their story ends. Dr. Landis and Blake show similar characteristics. Dr. Landis and Blake share similar characteristics, interaction with others and story endings. Dr. Landis and Blake have the characteristics of a high occupation and both are manipulative and insecure. However, the differences in Dr. Landis and Blake are prominent. Dr. Landis is a gentleman who cares for his family, but Blake is a low-life man who is narcissistic and superficial. Dr. Landis’ and Blake’s interaction with other characters are similar. Both of them become insecure and manipulative of the people they interact with. Dr. Landis and Blake want to have the upper hand and control to have things go their way. The ending of Dr. Landis’ and Blake’s story are also similar. Both are left by the people they have manipulated. The people they manipulated took control of the situation causing Dr. Landis and Blake have no power of the situation. Eventually, the actions Dr. Landis and Blake committed came around to give them a taste of their own
