Our TV shows glamorize programs that show fat Americans stuffing their faces with as much food as possible, while some children go to school hungry, or TV shows that are about rich over privileged families’ crazy antics who are only famous because they meet America’s fickle idea of a beauty this fashion season. Instead of striving to tackle the issues of hunger in America, or lack of adequate housing, or literacy in America, young people today tweet about how Starbucks

In the text she said “and those who have achieved wealth and fame do not celebrate it publicly as much as in American society.” Natadecha is saying that American’s don’t notice that it’s not good to show off because in Thailand they don’t celebrate it because it is looked as greed. Defining what American culture is today can be somewhat difficult in today’s society. American culture is always fluctuating. The United States has traditionally been referred to as a "melting pot," welcoming people from many different countries, and hoping to find a better means of life. However, others refer it to as a “Salad”; the ingredients are there, but not everything mixes well. America is full of rich culture, but not every person living in America understands cultures besides their own.…

The show that I used to watch for my observations was Empire. Empire is a drama about the head of a music business called “Empire”, whose three sons and wife are fighting for his throne. To begin with the family consists of the father (Lucious Lyon), Mother whose nickname is “ Cookie”, Andre (older son), Jamal (second oldest son ), and Hakeem ( youngest son). Throughout the show I saw a lot of society patterns, norms, culture jamming, and materialistic culture. Today’s society is very open and modern, and is influenced by technology and media.…

For my ethnographic research paper I examined the culture of my roommate who is from and grew up in California. The United States is a country that is just one large melting pot for different cultures and ethnicities. It is a relatively young country compared to Europe and Asian countries but the US pulls from such a wide range of countries which brings different cultures to one large nation. I looked at what culture is like in California. With the east coast facing Europe and the west coast facing Asia it makes for subcultures to pop up around the United States.…

If America decided to change its cultural view of itself, it would be a nation that is more aware and generous. America could relate with other countries, instead of being a nation that thinks, perceives, and behaves in a selfish manner. It would not be a “weird” nation or an outlier because their “universal” behavior would be become normal to other communities and other nations. America has had some rough patches trying to accept and understand different cultures. There are various cultures within America and it can be difficult to differentiate which one is more ideal.…

In America, there is never a day where parents lay their child to sleep praying that guerilla warfare groups will not rampage into their home and steal their child away for sex slavery, recruitment, or drug trafficking; in rural Uganda, parents say this prayer one too many times. When juxtaposing America and Uganda, jarring separations between their cultures and societal way of life become more apparent. Three prominent characteristics that separate America and Uganda are the countries ' conditions, societal conventions, and the amount of governmental authority over its citizens. While these characteristics lay the foundation for each society, they are necessary for determining the incongruities between America and Uganda. The stark contrast…
