Dr. Gonzalez Personal Statement

My interest in medicine sparked when I was an adolescent being cared for by my pediatrician, Dr. Gonzalez. As a kid, I consistently had shortness of breath and wheezing during sports competitions. As a result, Dr. Gonzalez diagnosed me with asthma and prescribed an inhaler and nebulizer to prevent complications. I am grateful for Dr. Gonzalez’s medical knowledge and advice because I was able to be successful as a student athlete. Sports were valuable in my life because they made me disciplined, accountable, value practice, sacrifice, and become a leader. Dr. Gonzalez’s ability to diagnose illness activated my value of academic studies and medicine. My intense interest in social issues, education, and athletics is suitable for the health care field and has prepared me for the significant decision of becoming a pediatrician. Gonzalez was a valuable experience. I learned about illnesses such as Polio, Neuroblastoma, and the common cold. Dr. Gonzalez taught me how to measure systolic and diastolic pressure, and use various instruments including a stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, and reflex hammer. Working with kids of all ages has numerous aspects—it can be challenging, it can be funny, it has copious facets, however above all else it is enjoyable. Everyone has a unique personality, and you get to observe children transition to adulthood. When children were too energetic or sad, I turned off the lights for them to see the glow in the dark dinosaur hanging from the ceiling, which I swayed back and forth. The children loved it and I gave them a sticker for paying attention. Several parents told me that I would be a great pediatrician because I am sensitive, patient with young children, and enjoy interacting working with others. I embrace the positive atmosphere of Dr. Gonzalez’s pediatric clinic because children who enter the clinic sick leave with a smile and satisfaction that they will get well
