This law was intended to improve the performance of certain groups of children, such as, English Language Learners, students with Special Education needs and poor and minority children, and also children who do not perform the same accademic achievments as their peers. Under this law, Title 1 schools had to perform standardized tests in both reading and math in order to receive money from the federal government. The goal of NCLB was intended to bring all students to the proficient level on standardized state testing by the 2013-14 school year. Schools have expectations to track students goals through Adequate Yearly Progress also known as AYP. If a school doesn’t meet the AYP goals for two or more years the students who are not achieving the AYP have alternative expectations.
