In David 's second year working for Luca Cumani, Luca Cumani had his first English Derby winner, who broke the track record at Epsom, Khayasi. David then went on to complete a study on the effects of road and air transport on horses in 1991 back at the Animal Health Trust. Following this David, in 1993-1996 leading up to the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, carried out research on thermoregulation and transportation of horses. A result of his heat and humidity studies no horses got injured during the cross country phase on completion of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games(Horse Hero,2008). During 1990 to 2005 David was Senior Scientist and Head of Physiology at the Animal Health Trust. David specialised in Exercise physiology, training, fitness, performance, nutrition, thermoregulation, competition strategies, respiratory and cardiovascular physiology and disease and transport (Marlin, 2014; IEBWA, 2013).
