Bernard Roth relates to his audience rather well. Roth is able to grab his audience because the audience can relate to what he’s been through. He uses pathos by his stories to connect to his audience when he points out that people don’t know if they are seeking after their goals or do they enjoy the chase? Are the people being honest with themselves about seeking their goals or are they not working hard enough to accomplish those goals. The author uses a sense of trustworthiness when he uses examples on how to get through daily complications that we all face. He creates a relationship with his own audience by showing his examples and how he got through them. For example, there are 22 reasons Roth provides on how to get unstuck from problems. Whether students will admit it or not. Above all, the most effective method on becoming unstuck is to create a supportive environment. When students are around supportive environments they tend to be more successful. As Roth says, “Invest in yourself” but how do students earn success from being in a supportive environment? Students would be successful if they did their homework in the right place such as the library and or in a quiet room. If they are on their own or in a quiet environment then that gives them the time to complete their assignments instead of being in a distracting environment. Students would also make assignments a priority if they were around friends or peers who study or complete their work. If they are around positive people while working on their assignments then they would be completed on time. According to authors Macan, Therese H., Shahani, Comila, Dipboye, Robert L, Phillips, Amanda P. “Students who perceived control of their time reported significantly greater evaluations of their performance, greater work and life satisfaction, less role ambiguity, less role overload, and fewer job-induced and somatic tensions.” This shows that being in a supportive environment can truly help students
