What’s Important Now? Everyone has complications in their daily life as a result of a poor sense of priority. In chapter three of the book “The Achievement Habit: Stop Wishing, Start Doing, and Take Command of Your Life” by Dr. Bernard Roth, readers learn methods to get “unstuck” in their daily lives. Although, college students use many excuses for not getting their work done, their biggest problem is setting their priorities straight so that they have enough time to complete assignments. In order to do this, students must ask themselves where their priorities lay, rather than blaming incomplete assignments on stress or a lack of time.
Meanwhile, in reading Dr. Roth’s book, students learn to prioritize by introspection and making small adjustments

Bernard Roth relates to his audience rather well. Roth is able to grab his audience because the audience can relate to what he’s been through. He uses pathos by his stories to connect to his audience when he points out that people don’t know if they are seeking after their goals or do they enjoy the chase? Are the people being honest with themselves about seeking their goals or are they not working hard enough to accomplish those goals. The author uses a sense of trustworthiness when he uses examples on how to get through daily complications that we all face. He creates a relationship with his own audience by showing his examples and how he got through them. For example, there are 22 reasons Roth provides on how to get unstuck from problems. Two of the examples he provides are brainstorming by making lists, logs and diagrams. Another example is to relax, if people took the time to relax instead of being super stressed their problems would be easier to find a solution to. The examples create an argument because there might be someone who disagrees with the way someone “gets unstuck” someone might argue that brainstorming isn’t a way to get unstuck but some solutions don’t work for everyone and that is okay. Roth says there are many other methods on how to get unstuck. Pick a method and stick with it, don’t jump from method to …show more content…
Whether students will admit it or not. Above all, the most effective method on becoming unstuck is to create a supportive environment. When students are around supportive environments they tend to be more successful. As Roth says, “Invest in yourself” but how do students earn success from being in a supportive environment? Students would be successful if they did their homework in the right place such as the library and or in a quiet room. If they are on their own or in a quiet environment then that gives them the time to complete their assignments instead of being in a distracting environment. Students would also make assignments a priority if they were around friends or peers who study or complete their work. If they are around positive people while working on their assignments then they would be completed on time. According to authors Macan, Therese H., Shahani, Comila, Dipboye, Robert L, Phillips, Amanda P. “Students who perceived control of their time reported significantly greater evaluations of their performance, greater work and life satisfaction, less role ambiguity, less role overload, and fewer job-induced and somatic tensions.” This shows that being in a supportive environment can truly help students

Students in high schools had teachers instructing and advising them on what, how, and when to do their schoolwork; however, in university students have the freedom and each one is responsible for him/her self. Although majority of students enjoy this lack of restrictions at first, but several feel overwhelmed, confused, and find difficulties in making decisions, taking responsibilities, and finishing all the work they were assigned with. Lastly, few students fail some classes due to a combination of their inability to adapt to the fast-paced life of undergraduates, their nonexistent time management skills, and procrastination as well as all of the problems mentioned…

In the first quote, it mainly discusses about how Honors students have trouble discussing and answering questions out loud because we are afraid of saying something wrong or different. I can say that this quote is absolutely true. There are countless times that I feel like I know an answer to a question or I feel like I can contribute something to a discussion, but I am too scared about what other people would think about my answer. I think that Honors students generally are afraid of this because we are worried about saying something wrong. By improving on this fear, I think that in general, people would be less afraid of speaking up in front of the class or contributing to a class discussion because people will be more comfortable about…

I was able to stay on track and handle my workload by writing down everything I had to do. To-do lists were very helpful for me…

In William Zinsser’s article, “College Pressures,” he explains the four pressures students faced in the late 1970’s. The pressures include: economic pressure, parental pressure, peer pressure and self-induced pressure. These students had an immense amount of pressure, and Zinsser’s wish was for them to delight in their educational journey. Granted, the pressures Zinsser mentions continue to exist nowadays; current students face even greater pressures. For one, in order to afford tuition, books and essential expenses, thousands of student work a full time job.…

Life is an everlasting journey of growth and development. In order to grow we must first admit to our faults, and stop engaging in behaviors that hinder us from becoming a better version of ourselves. Self- destructive tendencies plagues our society, and it’s easy to become discouraged by the hate and malicious behaviors inflicted on civilians from law enforcement officers. The mass media only covers half of the story, and the likelihood of the story being the truth, is slim to none. Ever since I could remember, I have always had a passion for helping others.…

Although this is true, most would agree that being able to manage time is a dynamic skill and extremely important. As stated by Ronald G. Leach (1980), “There is no such thing as lack of time. Several studies show that the most valuable and important time commitment in a course was the time actually spent in the classroom.(Schiming) Some other valuable and important time commitments included the time spent in discussion sections that complemented the lectures, and the time spent studying outside of class preparing for the class itself.(Schiming) That study concluded that the most productive time spent in any course was in the classroom; and that time had the greatest positive impact on the students’ performance. Another study of similar motives was taken on the most significant activities the impacted the students’ performance in any given course. The results of that study showed the idea that the most important learning takes place in the classroom and that students who do a conscientious job on a daily basis preparing for and participating in class perform better than students who skip class and try to cram for exams.(Schiming)…
