My relationship with Dr. BC began 3 months ago when he was one of the first surgeons to consult my wife who had recently been diagnosed with oral cancer of the tongue. He was attentive, focused, compassionate, confident, and authentic. As my relationship with Dr. BC grew, self-disclosure and rapport naturally occurred.

We discussed what got him interested in wanting to attend both medical and dental school as well as specialize in oral surgery. No doubt Dr. BC was intelligent and worthy of being a surgeon, but it seemed he had more than one interest and he chose oral surgery because it aligned both of his degrees. He had actually not set out on a path to become an oral surgeon. It just worked out that way since he had completed all the requirements needed to continue on such a path. He did not have any goals formulated for the future. He just had a graduation date on the calendar for his residency. Since I had raised three millennials myself, I wanted to know more about his family life, especially the details of his …show more content…
More. When I was earning my wings as an Air Force pilot, I had had an instructor pilot that treated me the same. I will forever remember that instructor pilot and the dread I experienced getting out of bed to deal with another day of verbal and mental abuse. My only coping mechanism was to just keep pressing, persevering, and never give up. I now embrace that time period as essential since it attributed to my later successes and the ability to cope and survive the pressures of combat. Perhap I could elicit the same outcome with Dr. BC. We also discussed his social support network as essential for effective coping. It was noted that he did not have esteem support and very little emotional support. The majority of his support network was tangible support from his parents and spiritual from a local pastor. We cannot survive alone and people need tangible, emotional, esteem, informational, and spiritual support systems, especially when dealing with adversity (Tamminen & Gaudreau,

I have found that the times of great hardship rely on an attitude of aura and optimism. Trials are encountered every day; whether it is my track team struggling as our coach screams to run faster or it is my best friend calling on the phone crying because her parents are getting a divorce, the theme never ceases to repeat itself. People depend on other people. People underestimate the power of a smile or a joke, but in truth, their powers are immeasurable. For as long as I can remember, I have constantly strived to be the go-to person for my peers because if I could make someone’s day just a little bit better, then it genuinely makes life gratifying, and as American actor and charity worker Misha Collins once said, “We are going to conquer this world.…

Also the patient should be informed and sign a consent form that allows the therapist to disclose their health information to other health care providers. In this case, I believe that it is unethical for both Dr. Knowles and Thomas to discuss their patients’ health information because they aren’t following the protocol for HIPAA. The second question can be controversial. I believe that it is not Dr. Thomas’s duty to disclose Therman’s information to her patient, Margo. This is due to the fact that Therman is not her patient nor did he agree to disclose his information to her.…

The education that I provided before the assessment was what to expect and the different categories we were going to be working on. During the assessment the education that I provided was what the instruction had me say which were clear and easy to follow for the client. After the end of the assessment that information that I gave her on the questions she had was the helping her step-by-step draw the cube. While giving the assessment I was a little shaky at first, but the instructions that were provided did a great job with making it clear on scoring, examples, and helping explain to the client what had to be done for each section of the assessment. Overall I thought it got easier to give as we went…

“You’ll never find a better sparring partner than adversity” (Meir, Golda). Adversity is the problems or troubles that make your life imperfect and burdensome; fortunately, adversity is not invincible and can be overcome with hope (The New Survivors), power (Life Isn’t Fair – Deal with It), and acceptance (For Many Returning Vets, ‘Moral Injury’ Just as Difficult) “The New Survivors” by Pamela Weintraub describes hope and how it is essential in overcoming adversity. For example, towards the end of the article it states, “Hopeful patients managed their illness themselves instead of letting outsiders pull the strings” (Weintraub 3). What this shows is that a human being going through adversity can have others attempting to tear down their hope…

Victims of trauma can experience a crisis in faith and spirituality, were they question their beliefs and wonder why the trauma is happening to them, (Lee, Park, & Hale, 2016). Victims may also struggle with the thoughts that they brought the trauma on themselves and that God no longer loves them because of the traumatic event, (Zenkert, Brabender, & Slater, 2014). Word…

The informed consent is like a contract that protects both the client and the therapist, it concerns the issues of confidentiality that is of special importance during our therapeutic work. Although psychologist Sean had knowledge that Will was a genius and had a wide range of knowledge, he should not assume that Will had knowledge about therapy and/or confidentiality issues. His failure of providing informed consent to the client and discuss it to make sure that the client understands his own rights violated the ACA code of ethics, as it stated in the code that “counselors have an obligation to review in writing and verbally with clients the rights and responsibilities of both counselors and clients” (American Counseling Association, 2014). In this case, Will is a client who had been mandated for counseling services, Sean as his therapist, should “explain what type of information and with whom that information is shared prior to the beginning of counseling” (American Counseling Association, 2014). Here, I recommend that in the future practice, therapists in this organization always provide clients with informed consent and thoroughly discuss it to make sure that clients fully understands their responsibilities and…
