All I see as I stretch my neck just enough for my eyes to peer out of the car door window, is the blur of the pavement morphing together with the trees and bushes that stretch far beyond the side of the road. When I turn my head to look back inside of the car, I first see my mom and dad. They are holding hands and smiling as my dad is driving and my mom is sitting beside him in the passenger seat. My brother and sister occupy the two seats directly behind them, and that leaves me,the youngest, in the back seat of our pearl white suburban that has years of filth spread all over it.
I didn’t have a single clue where it was that we were going. Nothing even looked familiar, although I couldn’t really remember even if I wanted to. My little five-year-old brain couldn’t possibly known where we were going. It was time to investigate.
“Where are we going?” I have to yell so that my voice can be heard over the blaring sound of the radio.
“It’s a surprise. You wouldn’t want me to tell you and ruin that. Would you?” My mom turns around and replies with a soft voice, so soft I almost can’t hear her. Almost.
“No.” I say with disappointment lingering in my voice. Of course I knew that they were never going to tell me where we were going. The only answer I got was that it

I’ve been listening to a lot of Jon & Deek in the morning, and in the mid-afternoon, and early evening. Those two (or one?) have me flipping through channels, seeing if I can remember what station NPR or The Keg is on. All I could remember about a station was “the Eagle is classic rock,” and I spent many minutes at red lights flipping through the country music stations trying to be reunited with my old customary station, only to find myself listening to Will Ferrell screech “SAANNTTAA!” on 94.9’s Christmas ad. Nothing was more brutal, and yet familiar than this. There’s no aux cord in my 2002 Honda, and it spits out cd’s when I put them in, and I can’t make myself realize that I’m not motivated enough to actually listen to NPR on a morning drive, so I resist looking up the tune-in number.…

Robert Wittenberg sat at the kitchen table in his lakeside condominium apartment, sorting through his mail which had accumulated over the last seven days while he was in Las Vegas. Aside from the standard bills that came every month, there was an assortment of junk mail which he culled from the pile and deposited in the wastepaper basket. He almost threw it away along with the rest of his junk mail,, but on closer examination, he decided that the letter didn't look like most junk mail that usually wound up in his mailbox, and he examined the envelope more closely. It was addressed to him and the proper Milwaukee City name and zip code but was missing the apartment number, which was neither here nor there since the letter got delivered anyway.…

Small Moment Narrative By: Simona McDonald It had been a grey, gloomy September day from the moment the sun chose to rise. A faint wind flowed through our hair while a slight drizzle sprinkled down upon us. The lake’s chilly, dark green water came crashing down onto the beige concrete in heavy waves as we strolled along beside the water, taking in the breath-taking scenery. There had been a faint mist acting as a blanket covering the city of Chicago.…

Houston, Texas; surrounded by sweaty strangers, stomach stuffed with roast beef sandwich, and I listened to the band Waters for the first time. April, resembling preceding months, had been miserable. But as I stood there listening to the song "Mom & Dads", the concert grew beyond just a fun time; it became an escape from the past year. Purchasing the band's CD became my heart's only desire and money was no object; I'd listen to that one song over and over as it became the soundtrack to regaining control of my life.…
