Chemotherapy alone or in combination with other therapies including surgical interventions and radiotherapy forms the basis of treatment strategies for cancer. However development of resistance in cancer cells against chemotherapeutics reduces the efficacy of these anti-cancer drugs. Another major roadblock is the dose-limiting toxicities associated with these drugs. Doxorubicin (Adriamycin) is a potent anthracyclic anti-cancer drug that has been used in multiple treatment regimens for the broad spectrum of cancers [1,2].
