Downtown Olympia Trip

Improved Essays
This trip began around 3:00 p.m. where I left my house to pick up Christina from the Martin Way Park and Ride. It was 3:25 p.m. when I arrived and from there we headed to Downtown Olympia. It took us a fairly long time trying to find parking and ending up finding a spot near the Farmer’s Market at 3:55 p.m. By then the weather was very cloudy and was 59 F. Despite the cloudy and not so warm weather, today’s goal is to experience and observe one of Downtown Olympia most talked about events the Procession of the Species! At about 4:12 p.m. Christina and I stopped to listen to a band play on Washington St and saw a few people even dance along to the music. So far at this point I was a little overwhelmed with all that was at the Arts Walk and …show more content…
the parade finally reached were we were located and it was instantly amazing. There were so many floats and costumes and the people who were doing it seemed to enjoy every minute of it. There was such a wide variety of different species in the parade, I was only able to note a few; peacock (my favorite), crabs, butterflies, flies, seaweed, lions, mermaids, fish, bees, jellyfish, a geoduck and so much more! Over the course of the parade, onlookers looked just as amused as I was and were enjoying all that the Arts Walk had to offer. People were enjoying the food (cotton candy, popcorn and unidentifiable food on sticks), face painting and live music. It was hard to tell if most of the onlookers were Olympia locals or not, but everyone did seem to enjoy themselves quite well. The parade finished up on the corner of Washington and 5th around 5:17 p.m. and by this time it was raining and a chilly 58 F. At this time Christina decided to walk around a bit and at 5:24 we walked about some sort of show titled “Stupid Show”. After standing and watching for a few minutes we both were not sure exactly what it was about so we continued walking. While walking around Olympia, we even ran into some of our old classmates from Geography of Polar Regions, Chaska and

The Chicano Park day was eventful because of the community getting together to celebrate the culture and park. It was impressive to see the amount of people that attended the event and how diverse, especially because of the community it is located in I expected it to be particularly the neighbors. In association to the news and the elections, it is important to see the amount of support that the Mexican culture is receiving and together they can withstand anything. On my walk to the park I noticed that it was going to be crowded because of there not being any parking so we had to park down at the trolley station. This is my first time down there for this event, it was impressive because I would have never thought that due to the amount of people…

Nettie Wild’s intellectually provocative composition, titled Uninterrupted, is a stunning representation of the essentiality and effectivity of moving images. Projected as large-scale images, the spectacle utilizes the pillars and underside of Vancouver’s Cambie Street Bridge as its film screen to exemplify the major disconnect between our city and the river habitat below. Uninterrupted- comprised of vivid illustrations and breathtaking scores composed by Owen Belton- demonstrates the impact of human existence on the complex sockeye salmon endeavor . The twenty-five minute array (which displayed nightly Tuesday through Saturday at nine o’clock, from June 28th to September 24th) focuses on these moving images within the intimate outdoor setting as the primary visual stimulation of the installation. Though two dimensional by nature, the specificity and attention to details within the installation creates the illusion that the audience is beneath the surface of the water, viewing the installation from the river bed.…

The best parade this year was the Raisin Day parade in my opinion. We were going strong and keeping the same pace without getting tired. This is what showed that this band was not going to back down from all the amazing bands that we would soon face. I was also proud and very impressed of how the band stayed focused when they needed to be focused during the time of learning our field show.…

Of the many things I experienced this past year, attending the Women's March on Washington impacted me the most. Hundreds of thousands convened in Washington, DC and cities around the world to stand up for human rights. Partaking in something bigger than myself, a notable event to be remembered in history changed me. It changed the way I thought about history, equality and politics, and how I reacted to injustice. I grew up in a very democratic town, a remote island of a county in a predominantly red state.…

Opening night, the dancers that performed in the University Dance Theatre production, had talent, agility, and graceful movements. The concert had a variety of dance genres, visual appeal, and emotions that each piece and the show overall represented. Humor, drama, and serenity were not emotions I thought I would receive while watching these dances. One thing I did not realize would make many of the pieces was how crucial and reliant lighting and graphics were necessary to make the piece more visually interesting. However, I was excepting similar dances and movements; even if, some pieces had comparable choreography and emotional appeal the diversity stood out.…
