The group of friends standing right in front of us jumped and sang every word of the songs being sung. We were only 30 seconds into the first song he sang, there was no one in the crowd in sight just standing there. Days before, I remember counting down for the day to approach. Waiting for that day filled with country music, sunshine, cowboy boots, and hats. It was the stereotypical perfect day, i've been waited for this the entire summer, ever since we heard of it on Wild Country 99.…

He talks about the vile and incestuous wedding that has occurred, about suicide and about the rankness and corruption within Denmark and the world, describing the world as an unweeded garden. However, the juxtapositions give his speech greater meaning. He compares his late father (King Hamlet) to his once uncle now (step) father (Claudius), as “Hyperion to a satyr” (I.ii.142). Hyperion was the Greek titan who was the father of the sun, dawn, and moon. He had virtues of honour, integrity, and nobility.…

Edward Abbey had said that the wild needed more defenders than defense. I wonder what he might’ve had meant by the wild needing more defenders, yet it needs no defense? Did Edward Abbey write this to notify those who do not care about nature? Edward had left us with multiple sayings about the wild in need of help but this quote is telling us that it does not need any defense. Half of the human race has over the years stop caring or thinking of the environment, we do not see how important plants or animals who need certain specimens to continue the cycle of animal and plant life.…

In Hamlet, Act IV, Scene 7, Shakespeare portrays Ophelia’s death as a metaphor of corruption through diction and literary techniques. Firstly, Ophelia’s flower crown is an extended metaphor for the royal crown. Shakespeare uses the decaying motif with this metaphor to show the king’s corruption. The maids call one of the flowers making up the crown “dead men’s fingers” (195). After this line, “weeds/weedy” and “coronet/trophies” take place of flowery words such as “fantastic garlands” (196-198).…

Producing the photograph from the ‘Wonderland series would’ve taken a very long process because of the backdrop. In order to make a backdrop, she would’ve had to research and find images she would like to use for her backdrop. It seems like she’d combined many ideas together to create her wonderful backdrop that incorporates a deck of card and different kinds of animals. To make the backdrop, Polixeni would’ve needed to draw out all the details she created with on a massive piece of blank paper suitable for her young daughter. She would have had to draw every single detail by hand, such as all the animals such as the rabbit, frog, birds.…

Hamlet and Ophelia 's relationship in the play "Hamlet" by William Shakespeare is very passionate, confusing, violent, and tragic. Many claim that Hamlet fooled her and that he never really loved Ophelia, however I disagree. Hamlet surely loved Ophelia, and Ophelia felt the same. They definitely cared for one another, for Ophelia claims to her father, Polonius, that he "hath importuned [her] with love in honorable fashion", and if he had not loved her then he wouldn 't have gone to all that trouble to make her believe he did; especially with all the family issues going on in his life at the time, revenge and love are too much for him to handle together (act 1, scene 3, page 23, lines 110-111).…

Exercise 2: Crux Buster, Harrison’s “On Not Being Milton” In Tony Harrison’s poem “On Not Being Milton” he writes, “my Cahier d’un retour au pays natal” (3). According to the footnote, the French phrase comes from the title of Aime Cesaire’s poem about colonized West Indian people and a journey back to their homeland. The translated version would read, “Notebook of a return to one’s land of birth.” The first two lines of this poem set the theme of the speaker returning to his roots in the form of his poem. The inclusion of this title in its original language is deliberate.…
