Progression is the ideal direction everyone wants to believe the United States is headed in, however, post-Reconstruction, the United States’ economy has deteriorated drastically. The first thought that comes to mind is probably the corrupt government and people in charge who drove this beloved nation to the dumps, but in actuality, every single citizen here in the united states contributes to the downfall of this country on the daily. One of the biggest factors unanimously discussed is the money taken and spent, but the real problem is the people behind the credit cards being swiped and the rigorous amount of luxury spending that goes to waste. America is showered with unnecessary luxuries that are of no use and evidently lead up to loss of over 25 billion dollars a year. The author did an exceptional job at highlighting the ridiculous amount of products wasted a year, and if every single American read the chapter and implicated it into their lives, America would be a greener, greater place.

Nowadays, however, Americans have become obsessed with the engrossment of disposable products. Disposable silverware, dishes, everything. During thanksgiving, families use disposable aluminum trays to hold the food and then after, they are just thrown away. Over 25 billion dollars are wasted on packaging alone. To make matters worse, companies introduced TV dinners which consist of premade food in a typically plastic container that needs only to be warmed up and served, then eventually disposed of. This was reasonable back in the day for single mothers who were employed, however, the majority of families who used these had no legitimate excuse but were just simply enticed to dabble in the new facade.
