After interviewing several businesses, the one that stuck out the most to me was Downey Contracting. The other two businesses that I interviewed could not even begin to tell me the answers to the questions that I was asking. When I asked the questions they looked dumb founded, I was astonished. Larry Downey says, “the company does have to hire outside of the company to get other things on the job taken care of, but this is all in the bid that actually gets placed on the job in the first place.”
The authority in the company comes from Larry Downey or Brandon Downey. Larry Downey is Brandon Downey father, they work together to make the company strive at what they do best, this is to get the job done. “We have several ladies in the front office that take care of the phone calls and see that the people talk to who they need to talk to and we also do payroll at our office” says Larry Downey. We coordinate with each other every morning to make sure we are not missing anything that needs to be done. When the employees are out on a job site they have meetings once a week to make sure everyone is on the same page about how things are going within the job, then the superintendent lets Brandon and I know if anything needs to be done differently.
The company’s values and norms are really simple. This company is down to earth and everyone is treated the same, no matter what you do for the company or how long you have been with the company. Talking with this company, they are just average every day people trying to make a living for themselves and for their employees. They want the employees to go out there and do their job and if they do not, they will find someone else that can do the
