As Catholics, we believe the fundamental truth is that every human is created in the image and likeness of God. Having shown that many people assume that raising a child with this condition would be very overwhelming and frightening, they decide to terminate their babies. However, the Catholic Church believes that women should accept their baby’s condition rather than rejecting them. According to Dr. Skotoko, a pediatric geneticist at Children’s Hospital Boston, ninety percent of all mothers of Down’s children decide to terminate their pregnancies. Our culture puts too much value on individual achievement that babies who do not “measure up” to certain standards are sometimes rejected and therefore, aborted. Many studies among adults with Down’s prove that an average of ninety-two percent are happy with their lives and who they are. For this reason, parents should not have to worry about protecting their babies with Down Syndrome from the
