Doug Pederson Team Summary

Tim McManus of ESPN believes that the hiring of Doug Pederson for the Eagles will help the players in the locker room and boost the overall morale of the team. Doug Pederson, a former temporary Quarterback for the Eagles and former assistant coach under Andy Reid, understands that a positive environment is a great first step for leading a team to success. Pederson is not a motivator unlike many other coaches, as he prefers to read from a script and chooses to be straightforward with his players since he was once a player himself. McManus first gives the reader a feeling for what it is like to be a new head coach in the NFL, as there is a great deal of scrutiny ahead as every interaction is closely observed. He then includes a quote from one of the …show more content…
McManus writes, “Pederson's time as a player in the NFL has served him well in that way, and has been perhaps his biggest asset when it comes to establishing an early connection with his players.” The reader should be well-aware that Chip Kelly never played a snap in the NFL and had a problem connecting with his players. One player stated that there is a new culture with Pederson, and Chip Kelly was always known for his saying “culture beats scheme” which did not turn out so well. McManus also mentions how Pederson’s practices allow them to make corrections, unlike Kelly’s up-tempo practices. “The machine seemed to cast a shadow over the individuals responsible for making it hum.” There was no accountability in Kelly’s system and Doug Pederson is essentially the complete opposite of Chip Kelly, so McManus does everything in his power to get that point across to the reader. This team showed great adversity yesterday. Now I know this game should not have been as close as it was and that needs to be fixed. But for this young Buccaneers team to come out and surrender a two score lead and still overcome adversity is an impressive feat and shows growth with this Bucs team. So many times in the past, we have watched our Bucs slowly self destruct and lose big leads and never get them back. Yes the Bucs should have blown them out, yes the Bucs still suffer from the kicking blues (as of yesterday), yes the Bucs didn't get a sack against a lackluster Giants offensive lineman.…

Not only did I connect to this quote because the Jets are my favorite NFL team but also due to the relevance of young recruiting especially in the football industry. The younger and younger that colligate football programs are recruiting athletes the more unknowledgeable about the choice they’re making the athlete is. I remember reading an article a few years ago from a local paper in Vermont about a young star from the south who was recruited so young he told his parents which school he wanted to go to because they had a good mascot and cool school colors.
