Director, Tracey McDowell, in her trailer, The Group, shows the humorless effect plagiarism has on a person. She constructs a panicked tone in order to reveal to her readers the idea that stealing someone’s work as your own will take a toll on you and your conscience. The director chose to use the rhetorical strategy pathos. Pathos is when an audience is drawn in by attracting their emotions. In The Group trailer it is heard and seen throughout the video that the college student feels alone and as if no one is there for him.…
Liars and those who doublespeak are in our daily lives, but how are they different from each other? In “The Ways We Lie” by Stephanie Ericsson and “The World of Doublespeak” by William Lutz, they portray doublespeak and lies as being similar with very few differences. Similarities between those that doublespeak and lie are how both mislead and deceive others. The results of such can be harmful.…
Hi Professor, For the Group-Led Discussion I did the introduction. I emailed the whole group on March 5 before spring break so we could get started on the assignment because spring break was coming up. Right away I got an email from Giselle she helped to explain what needed to be done for the assignment. The following day I got an email back from Paige saying she would like to answer question 3.…
Proposition 56 is a California ballot proposition on the November 8, 2016 ballot that would increase the cigarette tax by $2.00 per pack, with equivalent increase on other tobacco products and electronic cigarettes containing nicotine. We are in favor of this proposition to pass so it can help people. In a way of to stop them from, smoking so they won't end with damages in their body. Also helping little kids walk around with smelling the smell of cigarettes. And as well they won't be influenced into smoking.…
First, what worked well was how our group integrated our individual skills together to complete the project. When we introduced ourselves and what our concentrations were, it was easy to determine what roles and responsibilities we would take on. We worked individually on our tasks before meeting together and integrating everything into the final product. The problems that arose primarily concerned communication and scheduling group meetings.…
Doublespeak: a form of language that appears to be meaningful but in fact is a mixture of sense and nonsense Doublespeak can be used to change bad to good, negative to positive, and unattractive to pleasant. People use doublespeak to create illusions of greatness in issues that aren't so. When it's used in society it can affect the way people look upon a certain group of people for the better or worse. Curvaceous: having curves suggestive of a well-proportioned feminine figure.…
For me the activity of working as a group especially with other individuals who I have not worked with or talked to before was a good learning experience that had both positive and negative outcomes using Driscoll’s model of reflection as a frame work to elaborate on how I interpreted what happened, what impact the situation had on me and what I will do in the future if presented with a similar situation (Driscoll and Teh, 2001). We were required to do a 10 minute presentation for a health promotion project that we developed. I decided to work with other individuals who I didn’t know and have not worked with before as I believed I would be more productive and respectful if I worked with people I didn’t know very well. For the first tutorial…
We formed the group of four people promptly and waited for the topic to be assigned. The topic was assigned in week 9, while in other courses we knew all our topics for group assignments from week 3. Not only the topic for group project was assigned late, but I never had a chance to see the marking rubric and, therefore, to know the instructor’s expectations about my work. Despite the tight deadlines, our group equally divided the workload among four people and started to research the literature about the topic.…
The group presentation was an overall a success. We followed the outline pretty closely and each one of executed our part. In the beginning It seemed like we would not work well together because of our different personalities and busy schedules, but we all pulled it together. After a long debate about the topic of our assignment, we finally agreed to use the Horror movie, Saw. The reason why we picked Saw is because it uses suspense, scare tactics, horror and many more other features to display the underlying themes in the movie.…
In many lessons students work together in groups. This incorporated the Cooperative Learning teaching as well as the communicative language teaching. This was displayed when students were working on a story for their english class. Students who were more proficient in English read the paper of their peers and made corrections and suggestions in order to make the paper stronger. This assignment got students talking and working together just like we discussed in class.…
Throughout the year, as a class we have been given many different challenges in either the form of an essay, speech, or group presentation. The final assignment given to us was a group project presentation. From growing up in an age filled with technology, I have come to love projects that revolve around making some form of a PowerPoint presentation. This PowerPoint though, was both difficult and interesting for the reasons of being assigned group members not of my own choosing, learning to listen to others ideas which can help me to learn something new, and using former knowledge while working together to create a clean, in depth, and well prepared presentation. With working in groups of students whom I have known since I was young but…
On completion of my secondary school education in Lagos, Nigeria, and while waiting for my undergraduate admission into the university, I sometimes watched/ assisted my dad whenever he was preparing project proposals or actually executing building construction projects. I didn’t know it as at then, but I think that was when I started having this unconscious attraction toward anything that had the word project written next to it. Any mention of the word project and my ears would be on alert. My education and life experiences over the years have gotten me to this point, where I am excited to be applying for a Master of Science (MS) degree program in Technology Project Management. I can recall my first group assignment during my undergraduate days in the university.…
At the beginning of the semester, we were assigned a team project. At first, the assignment sounded difficult to me because it was just at the beginning of the semester and I did not know my classmates or the team members assigned to my group. With the help of the teachers I was able to meet and get to know my team members by their names, we exchanged our phone numbers and email address to ease communication. In our first meeting, we were able to select the team leader, come up with the rules to govern the team and also plan the times we were going to be holding the team meeting every week. In our second session, we were able to come up with the project, discuss the project then divided and allotted tasks to each member.…
Overall, I was extremely happy with the effort my group put into this project. In terms of attending the group meetings, everyone was present and participated in the discussion. The first meeting took place on a Sunday afternoon at Baruch and the second meeting took place on a weeknight in the form of a Google Hangout. The times and places of these meetings alone displayed every group members’ commitment to the project, effort to accommodate for scheduling conflicts, and effort to ensure they are contributing their fair share to the group regardless the time or day of the week. At these meetings, we discussed ways to engage the crowd and critiqued each other’s slides and presentations.…
The Power of Collaboration “Coming together is a beginning, keeping together is process, but working together is success” (Henry Ford, Brainy Quotes). Throughout the first couple weeks of college, I expected to figure out everything out on my own without help from anyone else. However as it may be the case in some circumstances, I can surely tell you that classes like English 100Y definitely does not hinder the concept of teamwork or collaboration. Throughout the semester we have been exposed to a variety of group based activities and challenges. These collaborative assignments help benefit the students with the capability to attack challenges in the future whether it be in another class or life itself.…
