Even Though there is a generalized concept of beauty, there are still exceptions to every rule, for example, the idea that height is only beautiful in women if they are high fashion models. The same double standards go for curves.
After and during puberty is when young girls start to realize the “importance” of curves. This is when young children begin to develop breast and start forming a more mature figure. Young girls who do not get as curvy as other girls are often mocked for their immaturity. Curves are looked at as sexual aspects of a woman's body and without them women can be considered to be unsexy. Society has set fine lines between what kind of curves are considered sexy and what kind are considered overbearing or unhealthy. Some women with curves are expected to wear loose clothing to help disguise their curves while other women pay for breast implants and glute injections to help achieve a more feminine appearance. In an article by Maya Rhodan, Barack Obama addresses the negative feedback Michelle received for her curvy figure. Obama says he wants his daughters to recognize “the fact they’ve got a tall mom who has some curves, and that their father appreciates” (56)
