A double standard is commonly defined as “a rule or principle that is unfairly applied in different ways to different people or groups". Double standard between both male and female is the most talked about topic throughout generations. In today’s society we live in a double standard world. Most individuals have a certain standard for women and men. Women are expected to be modest, organized and act accordingly towards certain situations. On the men point of view, society expects men to make the first move when trying date. Also when dating men have numerous of women and they are considered as a “ladies man”. Whenever it is time to make the first move or ask a question the man has to express his feelings more than a woman. Sometimes men are pressured to express their feelings more than a female. Also when it comes to proposing, it is “traditional and normal” for a man to propose. When a woman proposes to her male partner, she is considered as “desperate” people will see her as rushing to get married. When it comes to dating, it is always a issue when a female is slandered about dating too many men at once. On the other hand, men are praised about having numerous females to date. Some men feels they can do whatever they feel like when it comes to dating, ex. cheating. They see woman as an epitome of class and should act like a lady. Individuals feel like men and women should not engage in the same activities as men when it comes to dating. A woman who has a strong mind is considered bossy, aggressive or too honest. A man who has a strong mind or expresses his opinion in a respectable manner is respected from everyone. That man is praised for having good character and knowing what he wants.
