Federalism guards the people from tyranny by separating power between different levels of government. It does this by separating the powers of the government between the national and local systems. Double security provides a compound government which includes separation of powers and the three branches of government; executive, legislative, and judicial. Our government uses the Madison compound. It has independent state governments and a single federal government that unifies the states under a single rule of law.
