Decision
Life is not easy. Sometimes we need a long time to make a decision for the certain things, which can change our life forever; however, not all decisions are the right one. At some moments, we think our decision again, we might feel awesome, or depressed. Our feeling depends on the outcome of our decision. The Man He Killed by Thomas Hardy and The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost use diction, rhyme, and alliteration to describe decisions, which change their mind about reality. The Man He killed describes a narrator’s experience when he has to kill his enemy, who he never meet, and doesn’t do anything wrong to him. Moreover, The Road Not Taken talks about the prediction of the author about an imagination road, which he never takes. Don’t

The assonance alliteration illustrates the depressed decision, which makes them regret. Hardy uses the word “foe, so, and although” to express the complicated feeling of a soldier, who fight in the war without knowing tomorrow day. He uses “foe” to call his enemy. He doesn’t want to kill a person, who he never harms him. They go into the war with two reasons; protect their country and support their family. The war doesn’t bring any treasure to them. In the war zone, he calls all his enemies are “foes”, but after coming back home, they are all his “fellows”. Although they don’t speak the same language or share the same culture, they fight as same reasons such as support their family and proud of their country. In contrast, The Road Not Taken has totally different emotion with a soldier. He doesn’t go to the war and doesn’t kill people. As the same experience with a soldier, he fights with his own decisions. Frost uses a lot of “O” sounds in the first stanza, which describes the two possibilities of life, but he just can pick only one road, and the another road is a mystery. The character creates the possible decisions and confuses himself with mystery solution. If people are happy with their decision, they won’t draw the impossible road in their mind. “O” sounds like sad and uncomfortable, which the author tries to share with readers. Overall, the alliteration shows the emotions of character by repeating negative words, or same sounds such O or I. You can’t change the past, so keep looking forward to not repeat the

People perceive soldiers as strong, brave and young heroic men who march in parades, win glorious battles, bring enemies to their knees and ironically promote peace and democracy to the world. These men are ready to put their lives on the line and fight and defend their country at whatever cost. Cowardice is far from the mind of mere individuals when the word “soldier” is mentioned. However, when Tim O’Brien allows his readers to get a glimpse into the lives of these men whom we gaze upon with great revere, crippling fear and paranoia gnaws at the mind of these men as they trudge through the battlefields. The main reason for war is a contradiction in itself; a gruesome fight which results in the death of many and and the main goal is to restore…

War is not about the victories and the heroes, but about surviving and carrying the burden of death as a soldier fights for their country and life. In “The Things They Carried” by Tim O’Brien, the author, describes the human side of war and what a soldier really endures when they trudge through the country side of Vietnam or during the horrors of the night while on guard duty; not only are there physical burdens during war, but also mental burdens. Mental burdens are emotions like fear, desire and responsibility that are shown through the characters, like Lieutenant Cross, Henry Dobbins and O’Brien. Many of these characters, especially the narrator, are affected by all the burdens that war causes in different ways. But O’Brien argues throughout the book that the mental burdens of the war that…

In “The Road Not Taken” the speaker (Frost) describes both roads, he states “long I stood… And looked down one as far as I could… To where it bent in the undergrowth” (Frost, 137). This excerpt can be seen as the roads being a metaphor for the future. When the speaker examines both roads but cannot see beyond the undergrowth, this demonstrates the poet’s interpretation that no one knows what the future holds. As the audience reads further the speaker states “Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way” (Frost, 137).…

The population of each side eulogized war because they each wanted their own way of life, and they were willing to do anything to get it, but those that were not directly involved in combat did not see the real horrors that transpired during battle. The lieutenant returns home and is praised for his bravery, but he does not feel like he was brave but he rather feels ashamed: “When he reached home, his sisters, his mother, his wife, sobbed for a long time at the sight of the flat sleeve. “Oh, well,” he said, standing shamefaced amid these tears, “I don’t suppose it matters so much as all that.”” He was a war hero, but in his own mind he is ashamed for coming home like he did. Those looking in from the outside saw the war for what they were going to get out of it, but they did not see it from the perspective of the soldiers who were almost treated like criminals, especially after they were no longer useful on the field of battle: “His voice contained the same scorn as if he were saying: “You will have to go to…
