According to Dot Foods’ Chief Executive Officer John Tracy, Dot Foods’ major goals and objectives include those dealing with safety, customer satisfaction, employee satisfaction, waste reduction, revenue growth and net profitability (J. Tracy, personal communication, August 22, 2016). Customer satisfaction is measured through a quarterly customer service process, a process that measures customer order quantity and shipped quantity and a measure of product damage on customer shipments (J. Long, personal conversation, September 10, 2016). According to Dot Foods’ Vice President of Human Resources, Matt Holt, Dot Foods measurement of employee satisfaction is gauged through an all-employee survey and through employee retention metrics (M. Even though Dot Foods is not a manufacturer, the company took the concepts taught by lean manufacturing to help determine its course for eliminating inefficient and wasteful aspects of its operations (J. Long, personal communication, September 10, 2016). One of the main aspects of lean manufacturing is the elimination of waste and inefficiencies (Murugesan, 2016). Dot Foods focuses on eliminating the wastes inherent in its operation by working to reduce the costs associated with product damage, late shipments, workers compensation expense, employee turnover and lost inventory (J. Long, personal communication, September 10, 2016).
At Dot Foods’ annual meeting in January 2016, John Tracy detailed specifics from the company’s strategic plan. In the meeting, Tracy notated that Dot Foods would continue to focus on waste elimination, a reduction in the company’s environmental footprint, aggressive revenue growth and continued growth in company profitability (Tracy, 2016).
