Dorothy Must Die Book Report

The title of the novel I chose to read for my independent novel study is “Dorothy Must Die”. We are guided through this modern twist on the original tale of “Oz” by Amy Gumm. Amy is a tough and independent high school student from a trailer park in Kansas. The story begins at Amy’s school in a poverty filled community in Kansas. She is often bullied by her classmates and when the story begins we see the severity of it. After an altercation with a pregnant girl she is sent home from school with a suspension . When she arrives home she is greeted by her neglectful, and alcoholic mother. Amy’s mother warns her of the nearing tornado before leaving to go drinking with her boyfriend. Soon after her mother leaves Amy's trailer is caught in a tornado and transported to “Oz”.

Amy is immediately overwhelmed with confusion and fear after landing in “Oz” when she realizes that “Oz” is not what it used to be. The once beautiful land filled with munchkins,

Until one day a witch named Mombi appears, asking her if she wants to escape. After a brief fight with the Tin Woodman and the Royal Guards, they are both transported to the Wicked headquarters. When they arrive she meets Gert who was formerly the Good Witch of the North, Glamora who is Glinda's twin, and Nox a fighter for the Order. She is trained as a witch and kept safe with only one condition; in order to stay with the Revolutionary Order of the Wicked she must infiltrate “Oz” and kill Dorothy.

When I finished the book I was extremely surprised that I didn't enjoy this paperback and it’s plot as much as I thought I would have. While reading this book I felt as though the entire story moved at a very slow pace. Many parts of the story included no action or tension. Secondly, the ending seemed very rushed. I found that the conclusion was very unsatisfying and it left both me and the protagonist very

The novel is well rounded, but only falls short due to the accidental mistakes made by the author. Nonetheless, the fact that the book is followed by several sequels ultimately provides the possibility that the author fixes the issues within the next installments. However, despite being a well rounded novel the book at times is dragged out with unnecessary additional words where the author attempts to further describe her point. The reader at times will have to re-read several passages to understand the repetitive word choice and will have to overcome the lack of suspense within the novel’s key…

With America’s unstable health care system, there can be terrible repercussions from citizens being unable to obtain proper treatment. Sick: the Untold Story of America 's Healthcare Crisis-And the People Who Pay the Price by Jonathan Cohn investigates the history and impact America’s healthcare has had on various people around the United States. There are ten stories that showcase how the lack of a decent support system in health insurance can have big consequences on a person’s life. I think the book is good for any student or scholar who wants a look into the pro-universal healthcare point of view, but not for an objective idea of health care reform. Phase one: Before you read Before i actually get in to my reflection about the book i would like to tell you that the book i first told you is not the book i am doing right now. There were many reason i wasn't able to do that one, first of all i couldn't find the book anywhere i ask all the libraries and they all said that book is checked out in their systems, second reason was that the book was extremely long and i wouldn't be able to finish it, third reason was that the book is extremely boring i looked up a book summary online for it and i got so bored i almost fell asleep reading the summary. So now the book i have is The Bean Tree, now don't get me wrong i'm not saying that this book is NOT boring but its better than my first book. And last thing, i forgot to ask you if this book is okay to read, but i asked the libraries if either the setting is in Tucson or Arizona or the author live in Arizona or Tucson and they said yes sorry ahead of time.…

Although Dorothy is not the typical heroin, since she is a young girl stranded in a foreign land, I believe that she is the heroin in The Wizard of Oz. Throughout her journey, Dorothy shows courage and sensitivity and in the process, manages to touch and change other characters’ lives for the better. Upon landing in Oz after the cyclone, Dorothy managed to kill the Wicked Witch who was clearly affecting the lives of others in a negative way. The munchkins were thankful and happy that she had arrived and helped them by ridding them of the Wicked Witch and therefore guided her to seek the help she needed from the Wizard of Oz. It was munchkins that set Dorothy on her journey on the yellow brick road.…

This transportation is much like the one that Dorothy goes through in the famous movie, The Wizard of Oz. Oz, however, is not as it used to be.…
