There is the Tin woodman who looked more, “like a machine that had been cobbled together out of spare parts” (78). The scarecrow drains people’s brains, and injects them into his own head, to better his brain, and to get smarter. He also has his own laboratory where he takes innocent people, and tortures them, and experiments with them. They are, “‘his toys’” (180).
There is also the lion, “he looked like a monster like some warped nightmare version of the king of the jungle” (230). “‘The lion eats the fear of others’” (231). “‘It’s how he survives. How he gets stronger’” (231). All the characters are either with Dorothy or against her, they work as her slaves, working to take over Oz.
Dorothy isn’t only smart and strong, but she has stolen magic protecting her, this is why it is so hard to kill her. Dorothy has gone to great lengths to protect herself. “‘There are things protecting Dorothy that even she herself doesn’t even know about’” (443). In order for Amy to kill Dorothy, she finds out she first needs to complete these three tasks, “Remove the Tin Woodman’s heart, take the lion’s courage, and then Dorothy must die” (book
