She graduated from high school with the highest honors and studied mathematics and physical science. She was advised by the engineer she worked for to become an engineer. She had to meet a requirement that in order to be an engineer; she must attend classes at an all white school. Mary set a court date and the judge said she could attend night classes and it was her dream come true.
I have one more story of a woman who is out of this world, Katherine Johnson. She was a gifted child and excelled in math. Katherine was allowed into an all white school by the Supreme Court and worked vigorously. She heard from a friend about the NACA and worked very diligently and accomplished significant things. Katherine helped launch John Glenn into orbit and it was triumphant.
The first orbit for the USA happened and it was a day of excitement. The journey wasn’t over though, this was because they had one more stop and this was on the moon. Katherine Johnson assisted with answering advanced equations. Dorothy Vaughan helped with her programing, and Mary Jackson, aided as an engineer. These three women were truly hidden figures in history that did extraordinary
