Imagine stepping out of a limo, being completely surrounded by paparazzi who are just trying to get a snapshot of your glamorous style. You are the most beloved actress of your time, the 1950s. This was the reality of the young, actress Doris Day. From a young age, Day was intrigued with the performing arts. She began her rise to fame at age of fourteen through dancing, singing, and acting. Day was born to be a star with all of her many talents, however, Doris Day had a lasting plan for her name and legacy by encouraging women across the country. Many knew her from her hit songs and enjoyable films. Day was born on April 3, 1924, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Day suffered a severe leg injury from a car accident at a young age, ending her dance career. While recovering from her injuries, she found that she had an amazing voice that was ready to record hundreds of chart-topping song. She recorded her first single, “Sentimental Journey." After completing and releasing many songs, she grasped the attention of film producers in Hollywood. She made her acting debut with the movie “Romance on the High Seas” in 1948, which featured her first hit “It’s Magic.” She went on to act in over 40 movies. Through her …show more content…
Doris Day used her platform to create the non-profit organization called the Doris Day Animal Foundation (DDAF). She did this because she saw that America was lacking good homes and people able to properly care for these animals. The DDAF not only took animals off the streets, but also provided veterinary care, kennel space, and loving owners. In the 1970s, over 20 million euthanized animals were taken off the streets. Since then, the number has decreased to about 3 million, and it is all because of organizations like the one created by Doris Day.
