Dorian shows his greed for his youth and beauty when he sees the painting Basil drew. When he was walking with Basil, he says, “‘So you think that it is only God who sees the soul?...you will see mine’”(136). When Basil sees the painting, he became horrified as he saw a“ hideous face on the canvas grinning at him….disgust….loathing”(136). Dorian reacts angrily and blames Basil for “destroying [him]”(137). Instead of blaming himself for making himself a worse person, Dorian decided to blame someone else, even when he knew what he said would hurt Basil. When Basil proposes to Dorian to beg for forgiveness, Dorian interprets as a sign that Basil is not taking the punishment he deserves for bringing such hardship upon him. Instead, he goes to the extreme and decides to kill him. (sorry i didn’t finish this part)
Overall, Dorian Gray’s actions are evident even when he realizes how much he has hurt the people he cares about. This was shown when Dorian wanted to destroy the painting even though he knew it would hurt Basil, when Dorian broke up with Sybil, and when Dorian kills
