First of all, throughout the book, Dorian seems to look like a kind man, but, truly, he enjoys doing bad things. To clarify, Dorian had many chances throughout the book to listen to Basil instead of Lord Henry. Lord Henry is a character that enjoys manipulating other people. He advised Dorian to have more fun during his youth because, as he ages, he will lose his young and handsome face. Dorian listens to this and thinks that he should have fun going to parties and having fun with other women. There are two parts where Dorian gives up, literally, with his life. Primarily, he tells Basil around chapter 19 that he is too late to change his life. Basil saw changed and the corrupted picture of Dorian Gray and told him that Dorian can still change. However, Dorian suddenly feels anger toward Basil for drawing the portrait and stabs him. If Dorian did not give up in his life, he would have avoided his demise. Moreover, at the end of the book, Dorian stabs the picture of him, which makes him die. This part was also when Dorian gave up his conscious. The picture was Dorian’s conscious so that it will remind him how much his inner character has changed throughout his life. Nevertheless, Dorian was tired of feeling scared of keeping the picture. Therefore, Dorian Gray’s personality, which gave up easily, made him
